Knowledge Management Strategy, Implementation and Knowledge Networking (KL-KMSI)
“If one accepts the premise that knowledge is the (or at least one of the) most strategic resources of a firm, then a firm’s business strategy should reflect the role of knowledge in helping the firm to compete”, Zack
Many Knowledge Management initiatives have failed because of inadequate planning and the use of ineffective implementation strategies.
“The positive development of a society in the absence of creative, independently thinking, critical individuals is as inconceivable as the development of an individual in the absence of the stimulus of the community”, Einstein
Knowledge exchange and collaboration are important factors that stimulate innovation and invigorate the performance levels of individuals. Knowledge networking has become a powerful strategic business tool, particularly in the current economic and Web 2.0 environment.
This 5-day course has been designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of some of the most important aspects of Knowledge Management (KM): developing an effective KM Strategy and Implementation plan; and the importance of knowledge networking and the techniques to stimulate knowledge sharing and a collaborative work environment. These components are preceded by an introductory foundation component that provides attendees with a good understanding of the underlying principles of KM.

Knowledge Networking: Social Network Analysis, Communities of Practice & Social media
“knowledge flows along existing pathways in organisations. If we want to understand how to improve the flow of knowledge, we need to understand those pathways.” Prusak
Knowledge exchange and collaboration are important factors that stimulate innovation and invigorate the performance levels of individuals. The knowledge pool of organisations grows and is strengthened if employees are encouraged to share knowledge. Knowledge networking has thus become a powerful strategic business tool, particularly in the current economic and Web 2.0 environment.
We introduce participants to the various techniques that can be used to create and maintain knowledge networks and a collaborative environment. We specifically instruct participants in the creation of Communities of Practice (COP’s), how to conduct a Social Network Analysis (SNA), the use Web 2.0 applications and the benefits of such practices.
Outcomes
At the end of this module participants should be able to:
- Understand the importance of knowledge networking and collaboration and how this can enhance the business of your organisation
- Be able to select the best networking model for your organisation
- Understand the dynamics of Communities of Practice, how set them up and maintain them
- Understand when to conduct a Social Network Analysis, how to execute the SNA and how to derive benefit from the exercise
