It’s not so much Twitter itself… (10/29/09)
… but more how other applications make use of it that makes it so …useful!
Twitter openly promotes other applications that make use of tweets – today I decided to look one up called Trendsmap.
The name says it all, on the landing page you find the map of the world with all the trending topics from each region hovering above it. The topics are drawn from Twitter in real-time and are sorted in a “tag-cloud fashion” – the more popular tags being highlighted by its larger size and by being less transparent.

But a promise of better connectivity and faster download time is on the horizon – instilling a glimmer of hope into our hearts. The long due fibre-optic roll-outs that have been taking place all over the country have put a sparkle in the eye of your average internet user and is the cause of wide-spread excitement. But in light of all this promise lies another darkening concern: the digital divide.

The power of the e-book to take the pressure off short-loan and reference collections, as well as preserving shelf space and easing the pressures on libraries from non-returns and book damage is clear from the discussions held with UK university librarians as a part of the JISC National e-Book Observatory Project.
